From the author of 'Airport' and 'Hotel' among other great catastrophe books, here is the proof copy of 'Overload'. Proof copies are published before the first edition and in very limited quantities. Therefore they are always more scarce than the first edition. This copy also has a letter from the publisher laid-in. This is another cool disaster novel about a total, and maybe permanent, power outage. I have not read the book but in reading the publishers description of it I think that it sounds like a lot of fun! The original publisher's sticker is attached to the front of the proof. The title... This is a Very interesting book that was written before 1899 and covers the Boer war in South Africa. The Front board is illustrated in color and shows rubbing. Spine panel shows much rubbing to the top and less so to the rest of the panel. Binding is slightly loose and the title page as well as the dedication page have become detached from it but this would be very easy to repair. Otherwise the book is holding well and it is well illustrated. There are many attitudes and statements in the book that today we would call Very incorrect politically but these things are enlightening as to the atti... View More...

In this, the third Hannibal Lecter novel, Dr. Lecter is back and he has some new and creative ideas! This is the United Kingdom first edition and first printing. The volume showing some very light toning and light shelf-wear with a bit of staining to the fore-edge. There is a very slight lean to the book. It really does not detract. Folks, if you have not read this book, and have only seen the movie, you are in for a major surprise at the end of the story. Apparently the film people never even considered putting the ending of the book into the movie. I suppose they thought that the book's endi... View More...

Here is an outstanding copy of the First edition and Second printing of 'Septimius Felton, or The Elixir of Life There were only 3000 copies of this title printed on June 24,1872 which included this printing and the first printing. There are no records to show when the type was corrected during the printing, so we presume that the book with the correction is the second printing and was printed on the same day. The only difference between the first printing and the second is that on page 42, line 18 there is the word "it" in the second printing. In the first printing which I also have available... Hawthorne had left this book incomplete, in two drafts, at his death. Una, Hawthorne's daughter, and the poet and friend of Hawthorne's, Robert Browning, prepared the first draft for the 1872 publication. The novel is considered to be a "fragmentary" novel and is part of The Elixer of Life manuscripts which were first published in complete form in 1977. In this book Hawthorne explores themes of immortality and it is a wonderful story. This v... View More...

Now, more than Fifty years after Catch-22 exploded into the world's consciousness Heller has decided to show us his life. Here in his Coney Island childhood, down the block from what was the world's most famous amusement park. It was the height of the depression, it was a fatherless family, yet little Joey Heller had a terrific time on the boardwalk, in the ocean (dangerously out of his depth), playing follow-the-leader in and out of local bars and even in school. Then a series of jobs, the Air Force, college, and then the spectacular success of Catch-22 launching one of the great literary car... View More...
