Here is a wonderful and extensive selection of the works of virtually all of the Great British Poets. The book contains over 800 pages and shows considerable wear since it was published in 1831, The first edition was published in 1820 so this is a very early printing. Each section on a particular poet is prefaced by a short biography of the man about to be read. Suffice it to say that this is a great book that has worn over time. Published in 1831 this volume is bound in full calf that is marred or scratched on both boards and the spine. Marbled endpapers are present with a small bookseller st... View More...
This proof is in new condition with all corners square , no creases to the spine, and a pristine textblock. Proofs are pre-first edition and as such are printed in very small quantities. They are given only to the author, the publisher, and book reviewers. Consequently the uncorrected proof is more rare than the First edition. Stephen Ambrose was a well known, if controversial, historian. He wrote 'Undaunted Courage' about the Lewis and Clark expedition as well as 'Citizen Soldiers' and 'D-Day' and 'Band of Brothers'. His writing style is fluid and expressive. This book appears to be a series ... View More...

The Interviews collected in 'Spontaneous Mind' are indeed interviews of art and creativity. The book is in very near fine condition. It is in black boards with all corners square and no soiling or staining to the boards. At the extreme top of the spine there is a slight turning in towards the textblock but it is geometrically even and all material is present and not scratched. It is extremely minor. The dustjacket is also very near fine and if you look closely at the top of the spine panel there is a slight creasing that is virtually invisible and it does not seem to represent normal shelf-wea... Maurice Girodias has been alternately described as the 'old king of porn' and the 'Lenin of the sexual revolution'. In truth he has been one of the most important behind-the-scenes figures in the history of modern literature. Girodias was the founder of the Olympia Press, the Paris publishing house to which so many talented twentieth-century writers gravitated when their works were considered too scandalous for everyone else. Anyone who knows the Olympia Press understands its importance in 20th century literature. This book is a first edition and first printing. It was Girodias who through muc... View More...

Julian Hawthorne was the son of Nathaniel Hawthorne and also a writer. He authored 'Bressant' and a number of other fiction and non-fiction works. I believe this to be the second printing of this two volume biography. It is dated 1885 on the title page and 1884 on the copyright page. The books are in at least very good condition. The books have very lightly bumped corners except for the rear board of volume two. There is slight toning to the text but it is quite light and there is no foxing. The spines show some shelf-wear at the tops and the bottoms. There are some very small chips to the lab... View More...

Herman Melville's towering achievement stands as a timeless monument to the richness and diversity of nineteenth-century American Literature. Gay Talese is the author of many fine bestsellers such as "Honor Thy Father", "The Kingdom and the Power", and "Unto the Sons". This book, published in 2006 is in very fine condition but for the tiniest of shelfwear to the top of the spine of the dustjacket. It can barely be seen (really!). Apart from this both the book and the dustjacket are in Very Fine condition. Gay Talese has inscribed and dated this volume in the year of publication. It is an association inscription written directly on the title page. Parts of the inscription are a little tricky to read but I believe it says: "For Jim - ... View More...
