Julian Hawthorne was the son of Nathaniel Hawthorne and also a writer. He authored 'Bressant' and a number of other fiction and non-fiction works. I believe this to be the second printing of this two volume biography. It is dated 1885 on the title page and 1884 on the copyright page. The books are in at least very good condition. I mention this because the cloth that the book itself is bound in is a very light beige and would really show any staining. The spine is labeled in Gilt and the gilt is bright and beautiful.
