This volume is new and in very fine condition. It is signed directly on a special page at the front of the book. The book was published with a small rectangle on the signing page that may look like a bookplate in the picture but it is not. It is integral to the page and the author has signed within it. It's really quite unusual. The dustjacket is also very fine and it is not price-clipped.This is the much anticipated 2009 novel of historical crime fiction. This is the author's third mystery and it takes place in the Victorian era. It stars Oscar Wilde as a detective out to solve a mystery that is taking place in America. He comes to America and embarks on a lecture tour where he meets P.T. Barnum, Jumbo the elephant, and Louisa May Alcott. The story is framed as a puzzle written by Wilde for his friend Arthur Conan Doyle. The problem concerns a series of mysterious deaths occurring within a a French acting Group, the Compagnie La Grange. Wilde encountered this group aboard ship in 1883. These are extremely popular and collectible novels and that include humor as well as real suspense. A wonderful read and a beautiful book.
