Louis Auchincloss is one of the finest writers of twentieth century fiction and this is a book that is well worth owning and reading. Auchincloss considers this book to be his best and most people agree with him. The volume is one of the Franklin Deluxe Limited editions with the tissue guard protecting the signature of the author. It is bound in full brown leather with ornate gilt ornamentation to both boards as well as the spine. The spine has raised hubs in the tradition of classic bookbinding and there is a fine satin bookmark sewn-in to the book. This edition, published in 1977 by the Franklin Library, has gilt on all edges and it is just beautiful. There is a very slight dusting to the top-edge of the volume. It is in Fine condition and runs to 417 pages. I do not believe that the book has ever been read as it is so tight and pristine. It contains a special introduction from Mr. Auchincloss that appears in no other edition of this title. This offering also includes the 22 page booklet that accompanied the book on publication. This volume would make a wonderf gift for yourself or for a friend.
