This is one of the volumes that was published in the late Victorian period and had no date attached to it. Given the nature of the ornate binding and its decorative flourishes I would estimate that the publication of this beautiful book occurred in the period from about 1880 - 1900. The volume is in Near Fine condition. All of the edges are gilt and the spine and front board sport gilt highlights. The amazing design on the binding is clear and crisp with no evidence of rubbing. The textblock is absolutely clean with no writing or foxing to detract from its beauty. There are fine illustrations throughout the book and my bookbinder has created a beautiful custom slipcase for the book in colors that complement the colors of the binding. A wonderful Victorian book. Thomas Moore (1779-1852) was an Irish poet born in Dublin. He was exceedingly popular in his own day and his poetry possesses an element of inspired originality in its musical flow and in the beauty of its language. He was extremely successful with satire and epigram. This is a really attractive book for the connoisseur of nineteenth century poetry or late Victorian bindings.
