Player Piano was Kurt Vennegut's first novel. It was originally published in 1952. Vonnegut had previously worked as a PR writer for General Electric's renowned Research Laboratory. There he saw the technology of the future, including computer controlled machines that would do work traditionally done by people. Player Piano draws extensively from his experiences at the Laboratory. Set in an America where the only people that have any purpose are the elite technocrats who control the computers which control everything else. It is the story of engineer Paul Proteus, who joins a rebellion of those made useless by technology. Amazing prescience for 1952! This volume is brand-new and has never been read. It is in as new condition. This beautiful book is bound in full-tooled leather with satin moiré endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark, and 22kt gold on the spine. The paper was made especially for this edition. The leather was cut entirely by hand. It includes a certificate of authenticity and a 4x6 card laid in with biographical information as well as a few words about the book itself. It is a volume of heirloom quality and will be treasured for generations to come. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
