This book is still in the original publisher's shrinkwrap. It is an Easton Press Limited edition signed by the author. The Corrections is an epic look at contemporary American life. It is a compelling book to read but it is not always pleasant. The novel was first published in 2001 and it won the National Book Award for that year. Oprah wanted to make this novel part of her bookclub along with a long interview with the author. However Franzen expressed his dissatisfaction with the Oprah insignia being printed on his book by saying, "I see this as my book, my creation, and I didn't want that logo of corporate ownership on it." Soon afterward, Franzen's invitation to appear on Oprah's show was rescinded. This is a serious and very enjoyable novel. This beautiful book is bound in full-tooled deep brown leather with satin moiré endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark and 22kt gold on the spine. The spine has raised bands in the style of classic bookbinding. Beautiful gilt designs ornament the front as well as the back boards. The paper was made especially for this edition. The leather was cut entirely by hand. It includes a certificate of authenticity and a descriptive card laid in with biographical information as well as a few words about the book itself. Published by Easton Press it is a volume of heirloom quality and will be treasured for generations to come.
