This is a most interesting two volume set. It was published in 1889 and contains lyrics from all the way back to the revolutionary war. Later the two volumes were combined into one. This is the original format. This is the First edition and the two volumes are bound in a highly decorated cloth with gilt decorations both on part of the boards and on the spines. The books reside in a custom slipcase that was made for them and they make a great presentation. Each volume has its own mylar wrapper within the case. There is a previous owner's signature on the ffep (Front free endpaper) of both volumes but it is not large and really does not detract. The texts are absolutely clean and contain no foxing. There is some rubbing to the boards but it is primarily on the perimeters. These books are 16mo in size and they look like little quartos. The dimensions are 4 1/2" wide and 5 3/4" tall. There is a little creasing to the first few pages of volume two but it is very small and only affects the top couple of inches of the leaves. There is a full table of contents for each volume and these books will be loved by collector's that love poetry, music, or history. The books are historically significant.
