This is the Beautiful Franklin Deluxe edition of Norman Mailer's first and most famous novel. Published in 1979 on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the book's original appearance, this copy is bound in full leather with gilt decorations on the boards and the spine. It is signed by Norman Mailer and there is a tissue guard protecting his signature. There is a bound-in ribbon bookmark and all of the edges are gilt. The volume is in fine, unread condition although there is some very slight wear from age to the top edge gilt. This book makes a wonderful presentation. The Naked and the Dead has been hailed as one of the finest novels to come out of the second world war and the greatest combat novel ever written by an American. It is written in down-to-earth, journalistic detail, and the story follows a platoon of marines who are stationed on a Japanese-held island. The Naked and the Dead is representative of the finest in Twentieth century American Writing. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
