Author Name Faulkner, William Title The Town Binding Hard Cover Book Condition Very Good Jacket Condition Very Good+ Edition First Edition Size 8vo Publisher New York Random House 1957 Seller ID 005181 William Faulkner is one of our Great American Authors. This book is a first edition and Second printing of this modern classic. The book itself is in at least Very Good condition with a touch of foxing to the top edge near the spine. All corners are square and the lettering on the volume is in gilt. The gilt is still bright. The book has an extremely slight lean that basically can be corrected by hand. It is almost invisible. The dustjacket is Very Good+ except for the fact that it is price-clipped. There is very slight shelf-wear to the top and bottom of the spine panel and it is very light. This is an excellent copy of this title. There is no number printed on the inner flap of the dustjacket. In 1940 the novel 'The Hamlet' introduced the Snopes family and described their invasion of the small community 'Frenchman's Bend' in Mississippi. Seventeen years later 'The Town' appeared reporting further progress of the Snopes clan and of Flem Snopes rise from restaurant owner to bank president. This is a novel of Psychological Realism and Faulkner's method of telling the story is through the use of three narrators and this gives the book an unusual depth. The characters of the book become so well known that the reader who missed 'The Hamlet' may wish to return to that novel. If Flem Snopes is the symbol of thirst for power, then his opponents are symbols for a still existing moral force which can make even a town inhabited by the Snopes family a livable place.
