While teaching English at the University of Detroit in the late 1960's, Joyce Carol Oates became acquainted with a student who shared stories of her troubled family life. These tales of a family coping with poverty, alcoholism, and rage were told to Oates in almost confessional form and became the foundation for a stunning novel called Them. Here is one of Joyce Carol Oates most moving novels. She describes this novel as a "history in fictional form". This As New book is in perfect condition and has only been removed from its shrinkwrap to verify the signature. This beautiful book is bound in full-tooled leather with satin moiré endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark and 22kt gold highlights on the spine. The paper was made especially for this edition. The leather was cut entirely by hand. It includes a certificate of authenticity and a 4x6 card laid in with biographical information as well as a few words about the book itself. Published by Easton Press in 2002 it is a volume of heirloom quality and will be treasured for generations to come. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
