Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet that lived from 1777-1844. He was a contemporary of Sir Walter Scott. He is known for his literary ballads as well as for some notable martial lyrics. These include Ye Mariners of England and Hohenlinden, both of which are included in this volume. Campbell was quite influential in his time. This book is a school prize volume and it is in beautiful condition. The book is bound in full leather with extravagant gilt decorations and titling to the front board. The spine is densely decorated in gilt and all of the edges are marbled. The endpapers are also marbled. The volume includes a biography of Campbell as well as many notes to the book. The book resides in its own mylar wrapper within a finely constructed slipcase. The case is of blue bookcloth to complement the book's binding and the case is fully lined. The opening of the case is trimmed in high quality leather. This book is nicer than the pictures make it appear. A rock solid binding and many, many, of this poets fine works. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
