Barnaby Rudge was originally published as an internal section of Master Humphrey's Clock. The Old Curiousity Shop was also part of that publication. They are both complete novels that stand alone very well. This is the first book edition of Barnaby Rudge, one of the most serious of the Dicken's stories. The volume was published in 1841 from sheets that were left over from Master Humphrey's Clock and thus this book represents the true first edition if not the first format. The points of issue are included in Master Humphrey's Clock and all points are present in this volume according to Smith 6B.A new title page was created for this edition.The textblock is in beautiful condition and it is not foxed. The binding which is in a chocolate brown cloth is finely blindstamped with an ornate design. This appears to be the original binding of the book. Probably commissioned for a customer who had bought the sheets to the book separately. The book has been rebacked with the original spine laid down. The endpapers have also been replaced and a very fine presentation case has been built to present and preserve the book. The case is trimmed in high quality leather.This is also a large book. Almost a small quarto at 11" tall and about 7 1/4" wide. It makes an impressive presentation. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
