Author Name Thomas, Dylan Title Letters to Vernon Watkins Binding Cloth Book Condition Very Good+ Jacket Condition Very Good Edition First Edition Size 8vo Publisher New York New Directions 1957 Seller ID 003028 There were only 5051 copies of this First edition printed. This volume of letters to the brilliant Welsh poet Vernon Watkins, a contemporary and close friend of Dylan Thomas's, contain all of the letters that were not lost in the war. It contains a large number of letters, particularly from the years before the war, which provide a picture of Thomas in that time, as authentic in its self-examination as it is vivid. Dylan Thomas had the gift of expressing his genius as memorably and as unerringly in his letters as in his published writings. In these letters he was free from the impediment that expected publication imposes and the letters are simply brilliant. What could be better than two outstanding poets exchanging thoughts on poetry as well as world events? The book itself is in Fine condition and there are no problems to report. The dustjacket, which is not price-clipped is in at least Very Good condition. There is shelf-wear apparent to the top and bottom of the spine panel and a bit of wear, particularly to the top left extremity of the front panel. There is a tiny and virtually invisible closed tear to the top of the back panel but it does not detract. Of course, there is a bit of wear to the fold where the front and back panels meet the inner flaps. A really nice copy of this very important book. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
