Malleus Malificarum is a detailed legal and theological document that was regarded as the standard handbook on witchcraft, including its detection and extirpation, until well into the eighteenth century. Its publication did much to sustain some two centuries of witch-hunting hysteria in Europe. It was authorized by the Pope and written by two Dominicans: Johann Sprenger and Heinrich Kramer. This is the Folio Society's First edition of this work. The book is in very good condition with some sunning to the top of the front board. The beautiful front board graphics are inlaid and still retain much of their original metallic 'sparkle'. The textblock is very clean and the binding is tight. The spine is moderately faded but the lettering and graphics are still present and readable. The book resides in a mylar protector without slipcase. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
