This is a wonderful novel in pre-first edition uncorrected proof format: The format of a large trade paperback. It is from Stewart O'Nan who also authored Snow Angels. The proof is in near fine condition with a virtually invisible very small crease to the top right of the front wrap. There are no creases on the spine. Larry Markham awakes to discover that his wife has left with his young son and this is not the first time. It is a deep blow to a life that is already in fragments: A dead-end job delivering snack cakes, a strained relationship with his aging father who is a veteran of World War II, and weekly visits to the hospital where Larry leads a support group for disabled Vietnam Veterans. A disturbed member of the support group-a trained CIA assassin is stalking Larry and his family. His methods send an unmistakable message: The game will end in death. A great read and a great collector's item in Galley form.
