This is the Sixth Dream in William T. Vollmanns epic series Seven Dreams: A book of North American Landscapes. The book is in Fine condition with all corners square and clean edges all around. The dustjacket is Very near fine with a small closed tear to the bottom left of the front panel and a tiny bit of creasing to the top of the spine panel. Published in 1994 by Viking this book examines the clash of Native Americans and their European colonizers. It is 150 years ago and although our continent has been completely mapped, the white explorers who hoped to discover the Northwest Passage have found only ice and death. Sir John Franklin, cheerful, determined and rigid, sets out to complete the passage with hundreds of man and supplies for three years. This is his third Arctic expedition and this time he is not coming back. William Vollmann is, in the words of the Washington Post, "The most prodigiously talented and historically important American novelist under thirty five". We are pleased to send pictures on request.

Another different and fascinating book from serious writer William T. Vollmann. Vollmann also penned such works as Argall, The Royal Family, and The Ice Shirt. He is a writer that commands your attention throughout. The book is in as new condition as is the dustjacket. It is signed and dated by Mr. Vollmann directly on the title page. Also present is the errata slip laid-in which will undoubtedly become rare as many readers discard loose sheets within a book. The book has never been read. In 1543 the Polish Astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus lay on his deathbed, reportedly holding his just-published masterpiece 'On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres' in his hand. Copernicus was controversial then as his approach is controversial now. Vollmann takes readers down a subtle path of inquiry making Copernicus and his book all the more revolutionary. Vollmann provides a fresh and enlightening explication not only of Copernicus and his work but of the momentous clash between Copernicus and his world.
