1 Irving, Washington Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus, The
New York N&J White 1834 1st Thus Original Boards Good No Jacket
This little volume is a most interesting artifact. It is in good only condition with a worn spine that is beginning to separate at the top. The gilt lettering on the spine is still clearly visible. This volume, which was published in 1834 in New York is a later printing of the edition abridged by Irving which was first published in 1829. The book is fragile but holding together well. There is a waterstain on the upper right corner of the last two blank pages and there is a bit of very light writing in pencil on the inside of the back board and the rfep. An interesting example of very early American printing in the original paper boards.

2 Irving, Washington Voyages and Discoveries of the Companions of Columbus
Philadelphia, PA Carey and Lea 1831 First Edition Full-Leather Near Fine No Jacket
This is a lovely copy of the First American edition of Companions of Columbus. It was published in 1831 less than a month after the first British edition. This is BAL 10133. This copy has been beautifully rebound in chocolate colored leather. There are raised hubs on the spine in the tradition of classic bookbinding and the labels are lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers have been added and the volume makes a fine presentation. The textblock, for the most part is clean but shows sporadic foxing which is at its worst on the title page. The binding is tight and strong. This is a companion work to The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus. In it, Washington Irving writes of the adventures and exploits of such exploreres as De Leon, Vespucci, Nino, Balboa, and Guerra. A n impressive copy. We are pleased to send pictures on Request.
