1 Hersey, John Call, The
Franklin Center PA Franklin Library 1985 First Edition Full-Leather As New No Jacket as Issued Signed by Author
True first edition in as new, unread condition. The signed first is from the Franklin Library and is bound in full leather with decorative gilt gracing both covers as well as the spine. All of the volumes edges are gilt and the spine has lovely raised hubs. The endpapers are marbled. A satin ribbon bookmark is attached. The book has only been opened to verify the signature. Mr. Hersey, the son of a china missionary, drew on the journals and correspondence of his parents to weave the tale of the fictional David Treadup who has answered the call to spread Christianity among the Chinese people. This is historical fiction at its best. A truly epic tale of some 700 pages. There is a letter from the publisher laid in as well as a Special message from John Hersey appearing only in the first edition. We are happy to send pictures on request.
