1 Malamud, Bernard Stories of Bernard Malamud, The
New York Farrar Straus Giroux 1983 First Edition Proof Wraps Very Good+ No Jacket
Bernard Malamud was an American novelist and short story writer who made parables out of Jewish immigrant life. His First novel and probably his best known was 'The Natural' in 1952 which is a fable about a baseball hero with miraculous powers. He won a Pulitzer Prize for 'The Fixer'. This is a Proof copy of 'The Stories of Bernard Malamud'. Proofs are published in very small quantities in order that the author and the publisher can make any corrections to the book before publication. They are also sent to some reviewers to give them an advance look. Proofs are scarcer than the first edition. The proof is bound in wraps(Large trade paperback) and the wraps are tight and clean. There is some light sunning to the spine and some very light sunning to the extreme perimeter of the front wrap. There is a tiny scratch to the back wrap that is almost unnoticeable. The book is tight, clean, and attractive. Malamud's genius is most apparent in his short stories. Though the stories are told in spare, compressed prose, they include bursts of emotional, metaphoric language. Grim city neighborhoods are visited by magical events. Their hard-working residents have glimpses of love and self-sacrifice. This volume contains twenty-five stories and runs to 350 pages. It is a treasure of powerful literary accomplishment. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
