Golden, Arthur Memoirs of a Geisha Norwalk CT Easton Press 1st Thus Full-Leather As New No Jacket as Issued Signed by Author When Arthur Golden published this, his first book, in 1997 it became an instant literary sensation and a huge bestseller. This volume is brand new and was only taken out of its shrink-wrap to verify the signature. This beautiful book is bound in full-tooled leather with satin moiré endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark and 22kt gold highlights on the spine. The paper was made especially for this edition. The leather was cut entirely by hand. It includes a certificate of authenticity and a 4x6 card laid in with biographical information as well as a few words about the book itself. Published by Easton Press it is a volume of heirloom quality and will be treasured for generations to come. There is a slight anomaly on the fore-edge gilt of the book. It came this way from the publisher. It appears that there had been a very small bump or indentation to the gilt on the upper left fore-edge. It looks to me (and I have looked very carefully) that the publisher tried to fill in the flaw by adding more gilt to even it out. Well, it was a nice try but the little spot is still visible and it is extremely difficult to get a photo of because of the gilt itself and what it does with the light. The rest of the book and the gilt is beautiful. Memoirs of a Geisha is an epic tale told on an intimate scale. It is a novel of nuance and vivid metaphor. The novel tells the story of Nitta Sayuri and it depicts the now almost vanished world of the Geisha in a way that is exotic, accessible, erotic, suspenseful, and completely unforgettable. From a poor fishing village in 1929 to the decadence of 1940's Kyoto, through the chaos of World War II, to the towers of the Waldorf Astoria, the book is written with beautiful lyricism and beauty. Arthur Golden spent ten years researching every detail of Geisha culture to write this book. The novel is both very entertaining and informative. Price:
