New York Knopf 2000 First Edition Proof Wraps Fine No Jacket
This is a pre-publication proof of April Smith's 'Be the One'. Smith is also the author of 'North of Montana'. It is in fine condition with all corners square and a pristine textblock. The spine is not creased. Proofs are published in very small printings and are distributed to only the author and professional book reviewers. Thus, the proof is more rare than the first edition. This volume has the normal plain and simple cover that is usual for a proof but when the front of the wrap is opened, there is a full color cover that was used in the First edition release of the book. This is a book of suspense. The main character is Cassidy Sanderson who is a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. She is the only female scout in the league. On a scouting trip to the Dominican Republic two men unexpectedly change her life. When they return to Los Angeles all three find themselves entangled in a blackmail scheme laced with voodoo and real-life violence. A tightening triangle of suspicion and deception takes us into the back rooms of the high-stakes world of sports and finance. This is a novel of non-stop suspense built around a central character of substance and originality. The book is large in scope and emotionally rich. A Great read and a real page-turner.
